COURSES

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

Students will learn creative and critical literacy practices and how to effectively communicate to diverse audiences through the study of non-fiction, short stories, novels, poetry, art, and media. The curriculum is achieved through transdisciplinary forms of inquiry-based and student-led research. The three competencies outlines by the Ministry are: 1) Talking, 2) Reading/Listening, and 3) Production.

MEDIA

This course emphasizes knowledge and skills that will enable students to understand media communications in the twenty-first century and to use media creatively, critically, effectively and responsibly. Through analysing the forms and messages of a variety of media works, and through creating their own media works, students will develop critical thinking skills, aesthetic and ethical judgment, and skills in viewing, representing, listening, speaking, and creating. Video and audio production, website and entrepreneurial development, and design skills are points of focus.

VISUAL ART

This course works on developing students’ confidence in studio art and building general knowledge, both cultural/historical, in art history and artistic practice. It also delves into creative and critical thinking, along with personal and social responsibility. In line with the curriculum, this course fosters creative process and artistic inquiry through thematic and student-centered explorations of 2D, 3D and Integrated Media Practices. The two competencies outlined by the Ministry are: 1) Analyzing and appreciating artworks and 2) Creating artworks.
